Since 2018, Monte Hawkins has served as the first Director of the National Vetting Center within U.S Customs and Border Protection. From 2006 until joining CBP, Monte was an intelligence officer with the National Counterterrorism Center where he worked on issues related terrorist watchlisting and established NCTC’s screening and vetting support. During this time, Monte completed two assignments to the National Security Council, the first from 2008-2011 as the Director for Identity Management and Biometrics and most recently in 2016-2017 as Senior Director for the Border and Transportation Security Directorate for both the Obama and Trump administrations. Monte has served in various positions at the CIA’s Counterterrorism Mission Center, FBI’s Counterterrorism Division, and the Secret Service. Monte received his B.A. in Sociology from the University of Tulsa and his M.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland-College Park. He is a member of the adjunct faculty at Georgetown University.
